When you are a product-based business growing your following consistently is important. Here are 7 things you must do to grow your Instagram account.


1: Have a strategy outlining what you want to achieve with your Instagram account.

Having a strategy will keep you focused on the type of content you produce and share. 

 

2: Define your ideal audience.

Defining your audience will help you niche down your content so you reach the right audience. It will also help you focus your ads to the right audience.

 

3: Give your audience value with relevant posts.

Post content that inspires your audience, that they can use or want to share.

 

4: Decide on a theme for your Instagram feed

Instagram is such a visual platform and having a feed that is recognisable from being consistent with colours, image layout, image size. Using an app like Planoly is great to plan your layout.
Here are a few examples:

 

5: Post regularly 1-2 posts each day.

Instagram loves it when you post consistently to your feed, it keeps the algorithm happy and more people will see your content. Also, your audience expects to see your posts. Always post with hashtags that suit your audience, these can be added to the bottom of the description or in the first comment and you can use up to 30 hashtags.

You also need to post Instagram stories with additional content and/or sharing your feed post.

Tip: You should add a hashtag and location tag to your Instagram stories. (These can be shrunk and hidden so people don't see them and you can choose the location).

 

6: Open up to your audience and show them that you're authentic.

Where relevant in you images or descriptions or Instagram stories share details about yourself to show you have experience and understanding.

- Answer questions 

- Share why you started your businesses

- Share a mistake you have made

- Share a funny moment 

- Share success stories 

 

7: Follow the right people.

Follow people who are in your target audience and those who inspire you and your audience. Your account is more likely to be suggested to people if you follow brands and accounts that are similar to your own.  You can also follow hashtags that are your target market, this is great to engage with new potential customers without the need to follow lots of accounts.
